Contest: Name the cartridge! A New Load from BP Custom Mfg., Inc.

Posted by William Kapeles on August 29, 2007

We are in the process of developing a new loaded ammunition product and we need a catchy name. Please submit names via a comment. The winner will receive a nice prize from us (to be determined – but probably a Glock t-shirt or a knife). Please read the description below and help us out!

Paul and I were looking at one of our distributor’s catalogs and came across a great bullet. It is made by Hevi-Shot and is called “Dead Coyote.” (obviously “Dead Coyote” cannot be part of our product name. It uses some sort of patented technology that causes it to blow up completely at high speeds and at distances out to 100 yards. The makers claim that it creates little or no exit wound. They also claim sub MOA groups and consistent stabilization in weapons with a 1:10 twist or faster. They are a 72 gr. .223 Rem. round.

Paul and I love a session of varmint killing, and we want to see how these work. Consequently, we will be working up a couple loads for this slug in the next few weeks. We will be posting the ballistics and the “test” results to this blog. We are offering the slugs for sale to you reloaders out there, and we will also offer loaded ammunition as soon as the BATF gets around to issuing our license (that’s what we need the name for!).

Keep an eye out here for more information on this great round, or check out ammodata.com for a complete breakdown of the load’s ballistics (which will be put on there as soon as we have the data). If you want some of the bullets, we sell them on our BP Custom Mfg., Inc.website for $46.99 per 100 plus UPS shipping. Give us a call if you want to try them out. The loaded shells will run about $65-$70* per 100. We will reload your 1x brass with these bullets if desired.

Remember to check back often to see the video of the “field tests” we will be conducting on this new product! And help us name the cartridge! Thanks!

*Price subject to change – sorry! Component prices are fluctuating a lot right now!
