We are in the process of developing a new loaded ammunition product and we need a catchy name. Please submit names via a comment. The winner will receive a nice prize from us (to be determined - but probably a Glock t-shirt or a knife). Please read the description below and help us out!
Paul and I were looking at one of our distributor’s catalogs and came across a great bullet. It is made by Hevi-Shot and is called “Dead Coyote.” (obviously “Dead Coyote” cannot be part of our product name. It uses some sort of patented technology that causes it to blow up completely at high speeds and at distances out to 100 yards. The makers claim that it creates little or no exit wound. They also claim sub MOA groups and consistent stabilization in weapons with a 1:10 twist or faster. They are a 72 gr. .223 Rem. round.
Paul and I love a session of varmint killing, and we want to see how these work. Consequently, we will be working up a couple loads for this slug in the next few weeks. We will be posting the ballistics and the “test” results to this blog. We are offering the slugs for sale to you reloaders out there, and we will also offer loaded ammunition as soon as the BATF gets around to issuing our license (that’s what we need the name for!).
Keep an eye out here for more information on this great round, or check out ammodata.com for a complete breakdown of the load’s ballistics (which will be put on there as soon as we have the data). If you want some of the bullets, we sell them on our BP Custom Mfg., Inc.website for $46.99 per 100 plus UPS shipping. Give us a call if you want to try them out. The loaded shells will run about $65-$70* per 100. We will reload your 1x brass with these bullets if desired.
Remember to check back often to see the video of the “field tests” we will be conducting on this new product! And help us name the cartridge! Thanks!
*Price subject to change - sorry! Component prices are fluctuating a lot right now!
Friends, I detest having to pay for information that should be free. The people at a popular firearms magazine have started a website dedicated to reloading. It incorporates reloading data, shopping, articles, etc. It’s the bee’s knees. Unfortunately, it costs the end user $30.00 per year to get the info!
My question is this: Why charge for something so universally available anyway?
The only solution is for us to launch a free version of the same data. We will even have shopping available - though not to the same degree as the pay-site competition. We are calling our site: ammodata.com.
We are seeking input from the reloaders among you. What would you like an online reloading manual to give you? How much detail and frills do you need out of a free site? Is just the basic sizes, loads, and speeds enough data, or do you also need a cute graphic showing you the same thing the numbers tell you?
Give us some feedback here as to how you want it. It’s going to be a site for shooters - not frill-seekers. If you have any comments you would like to keep private, just say so in the comment and we won’t allow them to be “public.”
Have you ever been punched in the nose? That numbing, odd feeling you get from the compression of someone’s fist on your nasal cartilage is exactly how it feels to shoot the monster Smith and Wesson handgun. Combine the odd facial sensations with standing too close to a BBQ or a light sunburn and you can appreciate the muzzle blast of the weapon.
***UPDATE***: We have received several inquiries about the price of this weapon. Once we receive our FFL from the government, we will be retailing the 460XVR 5″ SS version of this weapon at $909.99 + sales tax (price reflects 2.5% cash discount). If you are interested in ordering this or any firearm from us when we’re legal, go to www.bpcustomshop.com.
Robert, one of our regular customers, recently picked up this beauty and invited us along for the weapon’s baptism. I knew it was going to be powerful, but the gun’s sheer size and blast literally blew me away.
The weapon itself is made on the S&W X frame. It is basically a beefed up 686 frame revolver. It is a 5 shot, and can also fire the .454 Casull round. It weighs in around 7 pounds, give or take, yet is still fairly comfortable to hold and fire.
The round is also a monster. Take a look at the photo below. Left to right are the .460 S&W Magnum, the .45 ACP, the .40 S&W, and the 9mm Parabellum. The obvious size difference speaks volumes.
I must admit, I do not have the data on velocity and muzzle energy at my fingertips as I write this, but suffice it to say that both are in excess of 1900. The weapon would make an excellent hunting handgun or rhino killer. I would not, however, recommend it for home defense (unless of course you do not mind shooting through several houses and making yourself deaf in the process).
One word of warning friends, make absolutely sure you and everyone around you is wearing proper ear protection when you fire this monster. To not cover your ears would be a grave mistake. I believe that Paul and I would also recommend that you take some Ibuprofen or other headache medicine to the range with you when you shoot it.
Please enjoy the videos of Robert blasting away with this great new weapon. I regret that the videos do not do the firearm justice, so I encourage you to go out and buy one for yourself! Remember to save your money for ammo, though, as the average box of 20 for this beast will run around $25.00. We will have reload data for this cartridge on ammodata.com as soon as possible.
BP Custom Shop’s firearm rating:
Practicality 2/10 *Ideal for hunting, but otherwise not very practical
Ease/Comfort to shoot 6/10 *heavy, but easy enough to shoot
Friends, we’re almost there. We have one more hurdle before we open the doors fully. We meet with the BATF on Aug. 7 for our regulatory review. Once that meeting is finished, our license will be issued. We will FINALLY be able to sell firearms, provide gunsmithing services, and manufacture ammunition. Thank you so much for bearing with us as we get the legalities accomplished.
As many of you already know, we are open for limited business. You can currently purchase ammunition, accessories, and other non-FFL required sporting goods. Please contact us via our website if you have questions or need to order something. WWW.BPCUSTOMSHOP.COM.
Our online reloading manual is coming along nicely, too. WWW.AMMODATA.COM will be operational around December 2007. We will try to do it sooner, but there is a lot of data that must be programmed into it. Please let us know if you have some constructive input as to how you would like it to work.
Again, thank you to everyone who is waiting patiently for the shop to get opened. We’ll be open in a couple weeks!
